Program Overview

This text-based e-newsletter activity will summarize the disease- and treatment-related symptoms of pancreatic cancer that have a negative impact on patients’ quality of life, and the role of palliative care in improving QOL. This activity will include a practical guide for communicating with your patients concerning palliative care and its integration as a key therapeutic strategy across the continuum of disease.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for community oncologists, nurses in community practice, pharmacists, and allied health care professionals who may provide care to patients with pancreatic cancer.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • List disease-related symptoms of pancreatic cancer that may benefit from palliative treatments

  • Identify core components of palliative care impacting patients’ quality of life

Instructions for Participation and Credit

This activity is eligible for credit through March 21, 2017. After this date, this activity will expire and no further credit will be awarded.
1. Read the target audience, learning objectives, and faculty disclosures.
2. You may be asked to complete a short pre-test before accessing the educational content. This must be completed in order to move forward in the activity.
3. Complete the educational content as designed.
4. Complete the post-test. To receive a certificate, you must receive a passing score of 70%.
5. Complete the activity evaluation survey to provide feedback and information useful for future programming.
6. Certificates for CME credit may be printed immediately after successfully completing the post-test and activity evaluation. Pharmacist credit will be uploaded to CPE Monitor 4 weeks following receipt of a completed, qualified form.

Nina Grenon received her diploma in nursing from Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing, Newton Lower Falls, Massachusetts, her masters of science in nursing, primary health care nursing: adult/geriatric primary care, as well as her doctor of nursing practice from Simmons College, School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Boston. Ms. Grenon is a Nurse Practitioner in Gastrointestinal Oncology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston. In addition she is an Adjunct Faculty member at Simmons College, School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Boston.

Ms. Grenon holds certification as an adult nurse practitioner from the American Nursing Credentialing Center; a geriatric nurse practitioner from the American Nursing Credentialing Center; and as an advanced oncology certified nurse practitioner (AOCN®) from the Oncology Nursing Society. In addition, Ms. Grenon holds membership in the Oncology Nursing Society and the Boston Oncology Nursing Society.
