Program Overview

In this case Dr. Susan Littman reviews clinical treatment challenges associated with pancreatic cancer including how anatomy influences the clinical presentation of pancreatic cancer, the initial diagnostic workup and staging of pancreatic cancer, indications for surgical resection and factors determining resectability, caveats to elevations in Ca19.9, and therapeutic options beyond surgery for metastatic disease.

Target Audience

The target audience for this activity is oncologists and associated multidisciplinary clinical specialists who provide care to patients with pancreatic cancer.

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify therapeutic strategies that may be utilized in a patient with advanced pancreatic cancer

  • Describe sequencing of treatment and rationale based on disease progressions

Susan J. Littman, MD
Attending Physician
GI Oncology Clinic
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Dr. Susan Littman received her medical degree from Albany Medical College where she also completed her postdoctoral research. She completed an internship/residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern, and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Littman was previously assistant professor in the Department of Medical Oncology, director of Hereditary Cancer Service, and clinical director of GI Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University and is an attending physician at GI Oncology Clinic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Littman has held memberships in the American Society Clinical Oncology, Pennsylvania Society of Oncology and Hematology, Pennsylvania Medical Society, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, American Association for Cancer Research, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Cancer and Leukemia Group B, and ECOG. She has published dozens of articles and abstracts, and is principal investigator of several phase I/II studies in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma and metastatic pancreas cancer.
